at a reception hosted by The University of Limerick and Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann to honour Dr Mick Moloney, musician, folklorist, musicologist, teacher, arts presenter and advocate and one of the most influential musicians and scholars in the field of Irish traditional music. Dr Moloney, originally from Castletroy in  Limerick, is now Professor of Music and Irish Studies at New York University. He holds a Ph.D in Folklore and Folklife from the University of Pennsylvania and is an accomplished singer, possessing a vast storehouse of songs and instrumental pieces from the Irish and Irish-American tradition. He was instrumental in the careers of artists including Jean Butler and Michael Flatley when he included them in his renowned ‘Green Fields of America’ group which toured the word in the late 1980s and early 1990s. <br />
